Edison Gem Model A Phonograph Edison Model A Gem Phonograph. Small black cast iron phonograph with patent plate on back. Gold Linear decoration around edges and on sides. Cracked cylinder on mandrel. The Edison Standard Model A Phonograph was made between 1901 and 1906. It was a rugged, well-engineered, and carefully crafted machine which with minor modifications became the standard for over three decades. As with all domestic models of this period it was finished with a green tint to the Oak case and a full garland transfer on the front. This is known as the 'New Style' cabinet. A Columbia Type B Graphophone in a wooden case. The exposed steel plate main frame rests upon a wooden bedplate. Also upon the bedplate is a nickel patent plate and a nickel license plate. Both bedplate and lid are simple, the only decoration being the traditional Graphophone decal garland.
