Win Scott’s Music Box double CD
When Captain Robert Falcon Scott embarked upon the Terra Nova expedition to Antarctica and the south Pole in 1910 The Gramophone Company (the original name for EMI) lent the expedition two HMV gramophones and several hundred 78 rpm shellac discs, specifically chosen to boost the team’s morale, many of which are referred to in diaries and journals of expedition members.
The ‘Scott’s Music Box’ album comprises recordings that Scott is known to have taken, and recordings by popular artists of the day from The Gramophone Company catalogue that he is likely to have taken, on that legendary trip. The album is a mixture of music hall and theatre favourites, popular contemporary songs and instrumentals, operatic and classical excerpts, and comedy / spoken word. The majority of tracks for this album have been expertly transferred and mastered from original EMI Archive 78 discs at Abbey Road by one of the world’s best historical transfer engineers. The 2CD digi-pack also includes an extended booklet which features extensive notes from a leading expert in the music of this period and various rare memorabilia from the EMI archives.
